It becomes humid outside + At noon, the sun burns red on noses and cheeks + Now that it is dark, the cool, humid air lays down on the grass and crawls slowly up naked legs + At the end of May, 2005, the summer begins + Inside the tent we stand closely-packed, beer fumes, endorphins and sweaty sun block + Only on the longitudinal side where the tent shell is open does a bit of evening chill get in + In the front rows of the tent stage it is packed + Six Belgians plus instruments, five television sets and a telephone + Bassist Daniel Hoffermann stands like a long, striped light house made out of body parts and cable spaghetti + Denis Wielemans has pushed his drums to the rear edge of the stage + His brother Antoine has positioned his microphone within the grasp of the telephone and keeps eye contact with Lionel Vancauwenberge on the other microphone + Christophe Leonard stows himself away somewhere behind the piano + Lionel’s brother Brice tunes his guitar at the edge of the stage + On the screens there are landscapes flickering like you know them from the band’s homepage + Then the camera catches long streets through the window of a speeding car + Pure escapism, actually, when the pictures hit the wallowing song of Girls + When Antoine Wielemans sings, “Suddenly, you slipped from my hands far away,” then takes the telephone receiver and proclaims, “Smells of gasoline…” + But now, in the tent, you don’t think about escaping when you hear these lines + Listening to Here and There, commuting between two places + Time to forgive the winter, time to feel safe and warm + Seldom is it as easy as it is here and now + In the row in front of me, a few guys begin to jump and mosh + They wear plastic flower chains around their necks, supposedly stolen from the Timid-Tiger boys + Hopefully these brawlers will finally understand that this here is not going to become a hula party, stop jumping and start listening + 2008, these Girls stay true to their melancholic sound, heavy on pictures + Plan Your Escape is the name of their new record and this time the topic is escapism deluxe + In a mountain shelter, the Girls captured noises of ether and rain splashing, and made this the setting of their sounds + The latter should not be an issue for Immergut this year + At last with the song Sun of the Sons, this warm here-and-now feeling will arise + No matter if you stand under the torrid sun or the falling rain + Guaranteed!
