I’ll bet you + He or she who listens to the first recordings of John Goldtrain, without background information, and has to guess the time and place and of its origin, would never get it right + Cologne? + 2008? + Excuse me? + No, this music is totally timeless and if you want to locate it somewhere, then maybe in the States, the country, where folksingers started to decorate themselves with great rock bands in the 60’s + John Goldtrain + Whoever chooses such a name does not want to be compared with random indie-orchestras + But wants to tour with Bob Dylan, share the studio with Prince and, in five years, move into the house next door to The Boss + That should be within the realm of possibilities + Because sweet and sickly ballads like “Curious,” stadium anthems like “Used To Be A Child,” or the hip hop classic “No Digity,” which was nonchalantly transferred into folk sounds, belong – honestly – in the American Top 10 + Doesn’t work for a German musician? + Better to lower one’s standards first? + Who cares? + John Goldtrain enters the stage with a seven-headed orchestra, including two background singers + Got to start big if you want to get huge + But who is this John Goldtrain? + Alright, let’s shed light into the darkness + Keshav Purushotham, also know as singer of Timid Tiger + A young man who lives in Cologne, but who’s home is the world, thanks to his Indian father, a percussions artist + Still a baby, Keshav crawled on the stages and around backstage rooms of exotic countries + There aren’t a lot of contact points between John Goldtrain and the teenage-hip Brit-Pop of the Tigers + Call it traditional, but this music does not need the zeitgeist’s mercy to be cool + This here is earthy sound, which nevertheless sparkles + It has warmth, it has glam + John Goldtrain, you’re the man!
